A second generation antique shop, Wayne Mattox Antiques was first established by Wayne’s mother – Daria of Woodbury Antiques – in 1972 at his current residence, 82 Main Street North on historic Route 6 in Woodbury, Connecticut.

Mr. Mattox is a noted expert in areas of American furniture, folk art, paintings, glass, pottery, ephemera and collectibles. He has broad experience in American and European antiques. Founding President of the Woodbury Antiques Dealers Association and past President of the Woodbury Lions Club, Mr. Mattox has twice been honored as “Lion of the Year” for his dedication to local and national charitable causes. He has served as celebrity auctioneer for many large-scale fundraisers including Waterbury’s St. Mary’s Hospital and Flanders Nature Center of Woodbury.

New Face for a Woodbury Shop

"Giving the old a new twist is what Wayne Mattox and his wife, Kathleen Dowd, owners of Wayne Mattox Antiques in Woodbury, have set out to do with the reopening of their antiques shop, located in the heart of town."

Mr. Mattox began writing his popular weekly magazine and newspaper column, Antique Talk in 1995 and has published over 500 articles. He has been interviewed on cable channels in Connecticut and was featured on the award winning Boston based television program, “Chronicle.”

For over 20 years Wayne Mattox has maintained a busy antique appraisal business serving trust attorneys, insurance agencies and home owners in need of appraisal services.

Sharing his passion for antiques and the arts, Mr. Mattox married his Irish sweetheart Kathleen Dowd in 2004. A quick student of antiques, Kathleen’s knowledge and great eye is equally suited to design, which included renovations to the Greek-revival home that houses the shop.

Wayne Mattox Antiques features a wide variety of both American and Continental antiques with great aesthetics, undeniable integrity and value. Many of our customers have been with us for over 20 years. Our friendly shop has many offerings from local estates resulting in high turnover.
