Having grown up with antiques, Wayne Mattox joined a family business on a fulltime basis in 1986 after working as a restaurant and nightclub manager and technical stock
-market analyst in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated with honors receiving an Associate's Degree from Paul Smith's College in upstate NY and a BS in business from Florida International University.
Wayne is a noted expert in areas of American furniture, decorative arts and folk art and has broad experiences in all areas of Western art, antiques and collectibles. Wayne has served as the founding President of the Woodbury Antiques Dealers Association and recently as President of the Woodbury Lions Club having twice been honored as "Lion of the Year" for his dedication to local and national charitable causes. Mr. Mattox has served as celebrity auctioneer for many large-scale fundraisers including Waterbury's St. Mary's Hospital and Flanders Nature Center of Woodbury.
Wayne's distinctive humorous, creative and educational approach to antiques and history has drawn large crowds in numerous charitable public speaking and audience -involved appraisal events conducted throughout the Northeast including Timex's Timexpo Museum and numerous historical societies. A continuing student and owner of an immense reference library, Mr. Mattox has taken numerous courses on antiques and related fields including furniture studies with NYU, Chautauqua and museum-directed seminars. Wayne's teaching endeavors include antique related lectures at schools and teaching a course on "Appraising Antiques" for the University of Connecticut's Continuing Education program.
He has been employed as a writer Grolier Encyclopedia on antiques and has authored over 350 articles encompassing the broadest spectrum in his field published in newspapers, magazines and web magazines throughout the United States and Canada. His website www.antiquetalk.com is one of the most popular sites dedicated to the subject of antiques and collectibles, drawing thousands of new visitors each week. Mr. Mattox has been interviewed on cable channels in Connecticut and was featured on the award winning Boston-based television program, "Chronicle."
Mr. Mattox was employed for several years as manager of a large New England auction company and was written up in the NY Times for his successes there. Wayne is currently chief auctioneer of a major Connecticut auction business specializing in antiques. He has a busy antique appraisal business, a large Main Street shop in Woodbury's historic "Antiques Capital of Connecticut" and continues to pursue his passion for creativity as a columnist, lecturer and novelist.
